DIY Hectograph Fanzine Workshop

DIY Hectograph Fanzine Workshop

Hectography is a a gelatin duplicator or jellygraph master used to make multiple prints. Adopting a direct-process printing technique, the image is drawn and transferred onto  a smooth piece of gelatin with its distinctive blue tones? and used to produce multiples copies.

The word Hecto means ‘hundred’ but realistically this technique can reproduce well up to 50. This low-fi, historically popular process is essentially your personal photocopy machine without electricity.

During this workshop we will explore the process of hectorgraphy and its applications, and design a fanzine based on 6 pages/images which once printed will be folded into the finished article.

Depending on your interests it is possible to incorporate text with the use of carbon paper and a Typewriter, you’ll be able to experiment on the day.

You are encouraged to come up with an idea you’d like to explore for your fanzine, a subject, perhaps some poems or photos to draw from. There will be stimulus  packages available on the day.

The gelatin plates can be purchased to print at home if you are pleased with your efforts or kits can be purchased to make at home from my shop.

I can also come to your workplace and run this existing workshop please feel free to get InTouch :)

 Annie’s Kitchen Litho workshop

Kitchen Litho workshop

During the lock down last year I became interested in low-fi techniques and Kitchen Lithography is brilliant. A simple technique developed using household items that can be conducted in the kitchen itself!

Using an array of mark making tools, we’ll explore how to achieve a printable plate, using some household materials like cola and tin foil, among others. As a flat surface printing technique, it employs the simple principle of two liquids repelling each other. Unlike traditional printing processes Kitchen Litho involves non-toxic and accessible materials.

This workshop offers the opportunity to try something different and explore experimental techniques. It’s a technique that once understood is easy to share with others, including children and novices.

You are encouraged to bring your own stimulus, perhaps a favourite landscape photo or a favourite object, but inspiration will also be provided.

The workshop involves mark making and drawing and an introduction to the process of making a litho plate and producing a print. At the end of the day you will go home with your very own paper positive print made through the kitchen litho process. You will be able to print also post card size on my converted pasta machine press.

Workshops limited to 6 person

*This workshop is easily transportable, and can be hosted a venue of your choice, for a special event or for a larger group. I can also run this work shop anywhere whoop
